Clearing Way to Employment: How you can collaborate with transition and special education staff as they facilitate career development opportunities for students with disabilities?

Webinar description: With greater interest in early career exploration and preparation, especially as a result of Workforce Innovation & Opportunities Act’s Pre-Employment Transition Services, Community Rehabilitation Providers (CRPs) and special education and transition specialists have increased opportunities to collaborate on career development activities. In this session, two transition specialists from MA school districts and a transition specialist trainer share their strategies to assure that these partnerships are effective and lead to positive work experiences for students with disabilities.

Learning objectives:

Participants will be able to identify strategies that transition specialists and special educators have used to promote career development, including:

  1. Establishing regular communication between students, parents, CRPs and school staff.
  2. Forming a community-based employment team.
  3. Using employment information forms to effectively plan for student employment experiences.
  4. Collaborating on job readiness activities.
  5. Conferring on transition assessments and transition planning forms that will inform student Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  6. Offering joint professional development to school staff related to job and career development.
  7. Planning solutions for transportation and job coaching support
