Certification Options
The Association for Persons Supporting Employment First (APSE) and the Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE) are two nationally recognized associations in the employment and disability fields. Both APSE and ACRE have identified critical competencies for employment professionals who support people with disabilities.
The Certified Employment Support Professional (CESP) is a national certification. You must pass an exam to get the certification. The APSE Employment Support Professional Certification Council oversees this process.
After you pass the exam, you must complete ongoing professional development activities to maintain the CESP credential. Visit APSE's CESP Central website for more information.
ACRE has embraced and expanded upon the APSE competencies. You must complete at least 40 hours of training and fieldwork from an ACRE-approved provider to get the nationally recognized certificate.
ACRE maintains a certificate registry that lists the professionals who complete the ACRE-approved training by name, certificate type, state, and year of training. To find approved ACRE training providers, see ACRE's Training Provider webpage. ACRE-approved trainings can help you learn the knowledge and skills you need to take the CESP certification exam.
